Joan

Joan Rivers is not Dead! She is Just in Critical Condition.

As the owner of several websites, when someone with the notoriety of a Joan Rivers gets a paper cut, my Phablet (ridiculously large Samsung phone) goes bunkers. Emails, tweets, text messages, all with varying reports on her condition come pouring in and it’s my job to sift through the details and talk Smack about what is really what.   So……

WHAT HAD HAPPENED WAS…

The 81 year old Rivers was in what was perceived as perfect health just hours before as Wednesday night she performed her stand-up routine at the Laurie Beechman theater, located near Times Square in Manhattan.  Attendees of the show, say that Joan appeared to not only healthy but she did not skip a beat during her act.

Rivers has complained previously about throat issues and finally decided to do something about it. She went to an Upper East Side doctor to have her vocal chords diagnosed. During the routine inspection, where a scope was placed down her throat, Rivers stopped breathing.

Around 9:40 AM, the comedian was rushed from Yorkville Endoscopy over to Mount Sinai hospital where she is said to be in critical yet stable condition. Rivers was sedated during the throat inspection procedure but its not clear what was used for sedation and if that could have caused an issue. The hospital is keeping her in a medically induced coma, as there are concerns regarding the length of time her brain went without oxygen and her body needs to be 100% rested to insure her best shot at full recovery.  [more…]

Her daughter, who was in LA at the time hopped on a flight and arrived in New York by her mothers bedside by 8 PM.  The 46 year old, Melissa Rivers, released a statement thanking fans for their prayer and continued support,

“I want to thank everyone for the overwhelming love and support for my mother,’ Melissa Rivers said in a statement.

She is resting comfortably and is with our family. We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers.”

During her set on Wednesday night, Joan joked about her own mortality.  In one joke she stated,

“I could go at any moment, ‘I could fall over right here and you all could say, ‘I was there!’

That’s keeping it a little too real. As you can imagine Hollywood has been lighting up twitter with support, I’m not going to post the tweets because it’s the same crap. “My prayers go out” blah blah blah.

Although reports say that she is in stable but critical condition, the real report we are all waiting for is her status when she is out of the coma. If the brain is without oxygen even seconds too long, permanent damage is almost guaranteed, but it’s hard to determine what is “too” long and nothing can be confirmed until her responsiveness is observed after she awakens

OUR PRAYERS GO OUT

Now for our dumb sentimental crap, “Our prayers go out for Joan and her family for a full recovery, she’s entertained us since 1965 and suddenly that doesn’t seem long enough”.

Hang in there.  As you can imagine her show scheduled for Friday at the Count Basie Theater in Red Bank, N.J. has been cancelled.  We will continue to update you on her status.
