Gabriel Union Taking Leaked Photo Fight to FBI

It’s starting to get hard to find a female celebrity who hasn’t had nude photos of herself leaked on the internet. While stars like Jennifer Lawrence, Kim Kardashian and Kate Bosworth have had their photos leaked, the reaction of Gabriel Union, another victim, is probably the strongest so far.

According to Union, pictures she shared with Dwayne Wade were leaked online. Not only did Union release a scathing comment to the hackers who did it, she also had her legal team refer the incident to the FBI, calling it a ‘digital hate crime”

A joint statement released by Wade and Union stated;

“It has come to our attention that our private moments, that were shared and deleted solely between my husband and myself, have been leaked by some vultures. I can’t help but to be reminded that since the dawn of time women and children, specifically women of color, have been victimized, and the power over their own bodies taken from them. These atrocities against women and children continue worldwide.”

While I’ll agree that this is a disgusting invasion of privacy, I have to disagree with turning this into a race issue. At this point, actresses and models of all nationalities and races have had their photos leaked, which indicates to me that this isn’t about race. It’s a bit of a stretch to call this a hate crime. A crime, yes, but a hate crime would indicate this was done because of Union’s race and not the fact that she’s simply a beautiful celebrity with a hacked cell phone.

Union and Wade went on to give their sympathy to other victims, saying

“For anyone out there also being affected by these and other hacking and hate crimes – We send our love, support and prayers. We have done nothing wrong.”
