Donald Trump Wants NFL Players To Give Him Recommendations On Who To Pardon (VIDEO)
Donald Trump really wants people to stand during the national anthem. As you all know, he has been in a long battle with NFL players who refuse to stand for the anthem.
Last year during a rally in Alabama, Trump energized his supporters by saying,
“Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a b—h off the field right now. Out. He’s fired! He’s fired!'”
That’s right. Trump wanted an NFL owner to fire an employee for not standing for the national anthem, which is all kinds of ridiculous. This ain’t North Korea. We can make our own decisions.
After realizing his “tough” approach to the situation wasn’t working, Trump is now taking a softer approach.
Trump spoke with reporters in front of the White House early Friday morning and told NFL players to recommend people for potential presidential pardons. He knows one of the reasons their protesting is because of the unfair treatment of minorities in the prison system.
“I’m going to ask all of those people to recommend to me—because that’s what they’re protesting—people that they think were unfairly treated by the justice system. And I understand that. I’m going to ask them to recommend to me people that were unfairly treated and I’m gonna take a look at those applications and if I find and my committee finds that they’ve been unfairly treated then we’ll pardon them. Or at least let them out.”
It’s difficult to know how to take this. On one hand, this might be a great opportunity to help some people who desperately need it. But on the other hand…can we take this request seriously? And is he only doing it for a few pats on his back?
I don’t know. It’ll be interesting to see if any NFL players respond to his request.
