John Stamos Says Co-Star Jodie Sweetin Saved His Life After He Hit Rock Bottom In His Struggle With Alcohol
As you all know, Uncle Jesse hit a bit of a rough patch following his days on Full House. Throughout the 2000s, John Stamos struggled mightily with alcohol addiction. He was doing a great job of hiding it for years, but then in 2015 he was arrested for driving under the influence.
That’s when he knew he had to change, and thankfully, his Full House/Fuller House co-star Jodie Sweetin was right there for him.
Stamos talked about the impact Sweetin has had on his life at a Writers in Treatment event in Los Angeles. He was presenting the 37-year-old actress with the nonprofit organization’s Experience, Strength and Hope Award.
It took me a long time, a long time disappointing everyone who cared about me, culminating in a terrible DUI where I could have killed somebody. I hit rock bottom. Jodie lovingly allowed me to walk my own path and when I finally humbled myself to ask for your help, I realized that the perky little blabbermouth had become the master of wisdom and was right by my side during some of the most difficult days of my life.
Sweetin organized 12-step meetings at his house and even on set. She was basically his mentor throughout this difficult process.
“Thank God, my wife [Caitlin McHugh] and my new son [Billy, 10 months] will only know me as a sober husband and father. This is Jodie’s legacy in my life,” he told the audience.
After the event was over, Stamos went on his Instagram account to pay tribute to Sweetin one more time with the sweet post you see below…

Proud moment last night honoring @jodiesweetin at the Experience, Hope & Strength Awards. Who knew this little blonde scene-stealer in a side pony-tale would grow up and change so many lives. (Mine included) Her sobriety is inspirational to say the least. Congrats Jodie on this award recognizing your extraordinary journey. You give so many people HOPE. Love you! UJ
