Is Mustard Pizza The New Food Craze? Check Out The Delicious(?) Photos Inside!
For decades, pineapple has been considered the worst pizza topping ever, but now people are wondering if they should add mustard to the list.
Food Insider shared a video on Tuesday that featured a Detroit-style mustard pizza from a pizzeria called Lions & Tigers & Squares in New York City. Instead of the standard tomato sauce, the pizza is covered with a base of mustard.
In addition to the mustard, you’ll also find corned beef, sauerkraut and nearly half a pound of cheese. The mustard pizza reportedly gained popularity when a drunk man entered a pizza shop in New Jersey and ordered a mushroom pizza. The man was slurring though, so the cook thought he said mustard.
Lions & Tigers & Squares partner Francis Garcia claims the dish actually works…
“You would think that all that mustard is overpowering, but it’s really not. You have the mustard instead of the tomato sauce, so the mustard acts like an acid like the way pizza sauce would. Who doesn’t like a cheese sandwich with mustard on it?”
As you can imagine, the internet is divided on this. Some people can’t wait to try it, and others believe it’s a disgrace to the pizza community.
Check out a few reactions below…
No. I enjoy mustard on my sandwich, burger, or hot dog. But pizza?
