Conor McGregor Sends Mixed Signals By Announcing He’s Retiring From MMA
Well, this is strange. On Monday night, Conor McGregor was on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon talking a lot of smack. He claimed that his next fight was set for July.
He didn’t know who he was going to fight, but then claimed he could pick whoever he wanted…
My next fight—we’re in talks for July….So, we’ll see what happens. A lot of politics and going on. The fight game is a mad game…To my fans, I am in shape, and I am ready. “I’ve done a lot. I’ve fought a lot. I’ve never pulled out of contests. You know, I’ve gone through some crazy injuries and crazy external situations that many a man would sprint for the hills if it happened to them. But I am eager to fight. So, we’ll see what happens. I’m just staying ready, as I like to say.
Sounds good, right? He’s eager to fight, and if Conor is eager to do something, we all know he’s going to do it. We’re talking about a guy who threw a dolly cart into a bus and got arrested for it. He’s slightly insane.
But apparently this interview with Fallon got him thinking and just hours after his interview appeared on the show, Conor went on his Twitter account to announce his retirement from MMA.
Hey guys quick announcement, I’ve decided to retire from the sport formally known as “Mixed Martial Art” today.— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) March 26, 2019
I wish all my old colleagues well going forward in competition.
I now join my former partners on this venture, already in retirement.
Proper Pina Coladas on me fellas!
Pretty strange, right? He does seem to be focused lately on his whiskey company, Proper No. Twelve Whiskey, but to completely give up fighting? He’s going to retire on a loss? As you all might recall, he lost his last fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov in four rounds. Conor doesn’t seem like the type of person who would go out on a loss. His ego is too big.
Many of his fans on Twitter don’t believe him, and honestly we don’t either. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him fighting again this year.
But here is the thing, he doesn’t NEED to fight again. His net worth is around $100 million. He made $85 million alone during his fight against Floyd Mayweather, and with his new whiskey company, his net worth could increase. He is set for life, so if he does fight again, it’ll be because he wants to go out with a win.
