Moby Continues To Claim He Briefly Dated Natalie Portman Even After She Publicly Denied It!
Well, this is awkward. In Moby’s tell-all memoir, he claimed that he had a brief romantic fling with Natalie Portman. He says Portman met him after one of his shows when she was 20-years-old.
“I was a bald binge drinker and Natalie Portman was a beautiful movie star. But here she was in my dressing room, flirting with me,” the now 53-year-old singer wrote in his book. He says they had a brief romantic relationship that ultimately ended when Portman met another man.
Moby says he was relieved when she called to tell him…
I thought that I was going to have to tell her that my panic was too egregious for me to be in a real relationship, but one night on the phone she informed me that she’d met somebody else. I was relieved that I’d never have to tell her how damaged I was.
Seems like an odd little humblebrag to put in a book, but I suppose if I dated Natalie Portman, I’d want people to know about it as well.
But here’s the thing, Portman is denying the relationship. Portman claims she did meet Moby backstage, but she was 18 at the time. “I was a teenager. I had just turned 18,” she told Harpers Bazaar UK.
She says they did hang out a few times but only as friends, and when she noticed he was hoping for something more, she ended their friendship because she was creeped out.
That he used this story to sell his book was very disturbing to me. When we met after the show, he said, ‘let’s be friends.’ He was on tour and I was working, shooting a film, so we only hung out a handful of times before I realized that this was an older man who was interested in me in a way that felt inappropriate.
After Portman told her side of the story, Moby decided to clap back. He responded to her denial with the post you see below on Instagram.
I like Natalie, and I respect her intelligence and activism. But, to be honest, I can’t figure out why she would actively misrepresent the truth about our(albeit brief)involvement. The story as laid out in my book Then It Fell Apart is accurate, with lots of corroborating photo evidence, etc.
I suppose this shirtless photo of him standing next to Portman is his proof….I don’t know. The photo is pretty creepy. It looks like he’s her stepdad and she’s being forced to take a picture with him, and she’s like, “Why are you never wearing a shirt?” and he’s like, “MY CHEST HAIR GETS SWEATY! YOU KNOW THIS!”

I recently read a gossip piece wherein Natalie Portman said that we’d never dated. This confused me, as we did, in fact, date. And after briefly dating in 1999 we remained friends for years. Thanks, Moby Ps I completely respect Natalie’s possible regret in dating me(to be fair, I would probably regret dating me, too), but it doesn’t alter the actual facts of our brief romantic history
