Alex Trebek Says Cancer/Chemo Is Starting To Impact His Hosting Duties On ‘Jeopardy!’ May Leave Sooner Than Expected (VIDEO)
We all have been praying/hoping that ‘Jeopardy!‘ host Alex Trebek would make a miraculous recovery from his stage 4 pancreatic cancer diagnosis.
Unfortunately, after a small victory over the summer, the cancer has returned in a big way. Trebek is currently going through another round of chemotherapy, and this time it’s starting to impact his hosting duties.
During an extremely personal interview with CTV (filmed back on Friday), Trebek talks about how he can see his skills diminishing. The chemo is causing sores on his tongue/mouth, which is making it hard for him to speak properly. He’s catching himself slurring words.
Trebek is super hard on himself and it’s obvious these small errors are bothering him. The producers on the show tell him everything is okay and they don’t even notice it, but he notices it, and his opinion matters most.
I’m sure there are observant members of the television audience that notice also, but they’re forgiving. But there will come a point when they (fans and producers) will no longer be able to say, ‘It’s ok.’
But Trebek’s life is more than just Jeopardy. He’s also a father/husband, who is trying to come to terms with the fact that he might not be here much longer.
I’m not afraid of dying. I’ve lived a good life, a full life, and I’m nearing the end of that life … if it happens, why should I be afraid of it? One thing they’re not going to say at my funeral, as a part of a eulogy, is ‘He was taken from us too soon.’
Obviously everyone is still hoping for a miracle, but at the same time, we know what’s coming. It’s sad to see, especially to watch it slowly over the course of several months, but as he mentions, he’s lived a grand life.
There’s no reason to feel sorry for him.
