Legendary Soul Singer Bill Withers Has Died At The Age Of 81

Bill Withers was a soul legend who created classic hits like ‘Ain’t No Sunshine,’ ‘Lovely Day,’ and ‘Lean On Me‘ – he was truly one of the greats, if not the greatest.

Sadly, he passed away on Monday from heart complications at the age of 81.

His family released the following statement:

We are devastated by the loss of our beloved, devoted husband and father. A solitary man with a heart driven to connect to the world at large, with his poetry and music, he spoke honestly to people and connected them to each other. As private a life as he lived close to intimate family and friends, his music forever belongs to the world. In this difficult time, we pray his music offers comfort and entertainment as fans hold tight to loved ones.

Withers was a three-time Grammy Award winner and 2015 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee. He was born in a rural coal mining town in West Virginia and famously overcame a childhood stutter.

It’s crazy to think about, but Withers probably would have dozens more hits if he hadn’t left the music world in 1985.

While many of Withers’ biggest songs were recorded in the Seventies, they have proven to be timeless hits. ‘Lean on Me’ emerged once again even in the past final weeks as an anthem of hope and solidarity in the time of COVID-19.

Several stars have jumped on their social media accounts to pay respect to the absolute legend…
