NFL Star DeAndre Hopkins Admits He Did Throw Up The Double Bird At Trump Caravan
"I really was about to give the peace sign to them, but this finger was kinda hurting so it didn't make it up in time…"— Bryant McFadden (@BMac_SportsTalk) October 27, 2020
You have to hear @DeAndreHopkins side of the story about what happened on the way to the game the other night…
You may have heard about the drama surrounding NFL star DeAndre Hopkins. The wide receiver for the Arizona Cardinals was accused of swerving in and out of a Trump caravan in Arizona while on his way to the stadium on Sunday.
He also flipped them the double bird, which was caught on camera. It’s a pretty iconic photo. The Twitter user who posted the photo claims Hopkins was swerving in and out of traffic and trying to cause an accident.
“You’re a piece of trash. Make your political statements, but you put people at risk today,” the user concluded.
@DeAndreHopkins My 8 yr old son was in one of the cars you were swerving in and out of as you were disrupting the PHX Trump Train drive and trying to cause an accident. You're a piece of trash. Make your political statements, but you out people at risk today. @espn @AZCardinals pic.twitter.com/7tAuuyM5Or— Richard Williams (@rwilliams254) October 25, 2020
This led to a bunch of old white people calling on the NFL to drop Hopkins, which is laughable. Why on earth would they fire a player for giving someone the middle finger?
Hopkins didn’t respond to the allegations for a few days, but he finally addressed everything on the ‘All Things Covered Podcast‘ with Patrick Peterson and Bryant McFadden.
And not surprisingly, he told a different story than the Trump supporters…
They were honking the horn at me to tell me to get out of their way — and I didn’t — and the guy in front of me stepped on his brakes and tried to stop dead in traffic. I was going to do the peace sign to him but this finger here [index finger] was kind of hurting so it didn’t make it up in time.
If I was in a Ferrari speeding, I don’t think you would be able to take a still picture of me.
And honestly, his version of events is more believable, considering a similar Trump caravan in California was accused of harassing drivers on the highway.
One thing is for sure, that double bird must have been cathartic.
