Who the….What the…Wellness policy.

Roman Reigns is still recovering from losing his WWE World Heavyweight Champion ship just a few days ago and now he’s been suspended for violating the WWE’s Wellness policy.

Who even knew that the WWE had a wellness policy?  What is it anyway?

The wellness policy has actually been around for quite a while.  The WWE instituted it 10 years ago back in 2006 to show fans that they would not tolerate certain behaviors, one of which is drug use.  They hire independent physicians to regularly test the wrestlers for a list of banned substances.  The first violation is 30 days, the 2nd is 60 days and the third is termination.

It also prohibits wrestlers from performing with injuries such as concussions or heart ailments and includes physical and cardiovascular testing as part of its monitoring.

Although drug usage is prohibited, as you can see from the 30 day suspension, the WWE does not have a zero tolerance policy, however for other violations it is clear that you will be banned immediately.  Per the policy,

WWE has zero tolerance for matters involving domestic violence, child abuse and sexual assault. Upon arrest for such misconduct, a WWE talent will be immediately suspended. Upon conviction for such misconduct, a WWE talent will be immediately terminated.

BOOM.  No Gray area there.

The full policy can actually be found here on the WWE’s website.

SO WHAT DID ROMAN REIGNS ACTUALLY DO WRONG?

The 31 year old, whose real name is Joseph Anoa’I tested positive for drugs.  It’s not clear exactly what substance he tested positive for or when the actual violation occurred as the WWE does not, nor does it have to release the details on policy violations.  It is clear however that the suspension will start immediately.

Reigns took to twitter to apologize, posting this on twitter to his 1.77 million followers and the fans were not happy: (Read More)
