Tobey Maguire and Welcome Back Kotter part of a High Price Gambling Ring!

This is what happens when you make so much money you don’t even know what to do with it.  You play high stakes poker with a $100,000 buy in.

Tobey is the first name that has popped up in the multi-million dollar gambling ring that involved high stakes poker games. Don’t let he baby face fool you.  Maguire won over $300,000!!!

The problem is, that some of the money he won was embezzled from a hedge fund investor Bradley “Smells Badly” Ruderman.  (I added the smells badly part. )

Ruderman is currently in jail for the ponzi scheme embezzlement. When Ruderman wasn’t running a ponzi scheme he was apparently running illegal poker games.  They were unlicensed games in which Ruderman himself dropped $25 million of investors money.  The games were set up on the DL every other week, in posh locations like The Viper room, The Four Season and the Beverly Hill Hotel.

If Ruderman is in jail, then who is suing Tobey?

Trustees of Ruderman’s company, (Ruderman Capital Partners), want to get a taste of Maguires winnings to pay off creditors as the investment firm is now bankrupt.

The games are rumored to be still going on.  The buy in is $100,000, so you know that leaves me out.  The coplaint filed in the US Bankruptcy court stated,

The filing also states that the “exclusive, invitation only” games involving “wealthy celebrities, entrepreneurs, attorneys and businessman” were “controlled” affairs complete with “food, alcohol and massages,” but were not licensed by federal, state and/or local laws, rules and ordinances, as required by California law.”

“As the Poker Games, the operators of the Poker Games, the dealers for the Poker Games, the equipment used at the Poker Games and the locations of the Poker Games were unlicensed and improperly conducted pursuant to state and local laws, rules and ordinances, to the extent that a player were to ‘win’ at one of the Poker Games and to the extent that the player was not paid for the winnings, the player had no legally enforceable contractual right to receive payment, and had no right to enforce the winnings in state or federal court,” claimed the suit.

For all you Old Heads who remember Gabe Kaplan from WBK then you remember he used to tell jokes during the show to his wife.  It was a reoccurring skit.  Here’s one below:
