The “Back to the Future” Delorean Sells for More then Half a Million Dollars!

Maybe only the “80’s Babies” remember “Back to the Future”, but it was an iconic film during the 80’s, with 2 sequels to follow.  The big deal was the DeLorean – the car that was built into a time machine.  In a famous line from the movie, Marty McFly played by a superstar (at the time) Michael J Fox and Dr. Emmett Brown played by none other than Christopher Lloyd discuss the DeLorean,

Marty McFly: Wait a minute, Doc. Ah… Are you telling me that you built a time machine… out of a DeLorean?
Dr. Emmett Brown: The way I see it, if you’re gonna build a time machine into a car, why not do it with some style?

The DeLorean DMC-12 gullwing time machine has been put up for auction and sold.  There were 7 used to film the movie and only 3 of them are still in existence.  Universal Studios owns the other two.  This one was built completely for off road use.

The nice part about this auction is that part of the proceeds will go to support Michael J Fox’s Foundation for Parkinson’s research.  The bid closed just over half a million dollars at $541,200.  I’m always happy to see when mad-money is spent and it supports a good cause.

This particular car was used in the third movie, and was in the hands of a private owner.  Personally I think the third movie jumped the shark.  It had a Western Theme!  ….…however the Trilogy is still a classic.
