Cynthia Nixon Shocks on TV and Enrages on Paper, Reveals Bald Head and says She is Gay by Choice!

What a day she is having.  This morning Cynthia Nixon shook up daytime TV on “Live with Kelly”.  She revealed a smooth as silk, shiny, chrome dome.  (I have to say, it was a pretty decent head).  Kelly Rippa also thought so, complimenting the actress on her new look.

She is starring in a Theater production of Wit, where she is playing a professor who is stricken with ovarian cancer and undergoes chemotherapy. The character’s name is Vivian Bearing a role played by Judith Light (from Who’s the Boss) who also shaved her head for the role.

Judith Light

This role is close to Nixon’s heart as she was diagnosed with breast Cancer in 2006 after a routine mammogram.  Although she never had to endure chemo, she is reminded daily because she is taking the cancer fighting medicine Tamoxifen to keep the disease at bay.

Nixon jokingly commented on how much maintenance a bald head actually is.  You think it’s going to be “buff & go” but it’s much more…(trust me I speak from experience).  Nixon told Rippa,

‘It’s got kind of a five o’clock shadow, and you don’t want to go on with that,’ she continued.

‘I was always kind of curious to see what it would be like. I like it; I don’t think I’m gonna keep it forever.’

NY TIMES INTERVIEW

In an interview with the New York Times, she really shakes things up.

She insists that her homosexuality was a choice, and that this is not wrong.  She was married for 15 year and has a 15 year old and a 9 year old with her ex-husband.  She is now engaged to her longtime partner Christine Marinoni.  She insists that she made the decision to be gay.

She explained how she gave a speech and it included the statement

‘I’ve been straight and I’ve been gay, and gay is better.’

Well, this implies that being gay is a choice and argument that has been hot and heavy for the last decade.  The LGBT community is pissed!!!

She continues in her interview,

And for me, it is a choice. I understand that for many people it’s not, but for me it’s a choice, and you don’t get to define my gayness for me. A certain section of our community is very concerned that it not be seen as a choice, because if it’s a choice, then we could opt out.

‘I say it doesn’t matter if we flew here or we swam here, it matters that we are here and we are one group and let us stop trying to make a litmus test for who is considered gay and who is not.’

I get it.  How can you tell her what she felt or what she is.

‘Why can’t it be a choice? Why is that any less legitimate? It seems we’re just ceding this point to bigots who are demanding it, and I don’t think that they should define the terms of the debate.

‘I also feel like people think I was walking around in a cloud and didn’t realise I was gay, which I find really offensive. I find it offensive to me, but I also find it offensive to all the men I’ve been out with.’

The fear is that her words will empower anti-civil rights activists, giving them a Hollywood A-lister to quote from when the talk of homosexuality is brought up.  Enraged blogger John Aravosis, on his website   gay.americablog.com was pisssseeeeddd!!   He insists that the only choice for gay men (and people) is no choice at all.

TELL ‘EM WHY YOU MAD SON!

From Aravosis’ website,

What she means is that she’s bisexual, and doesn’t quite get that most people aren’t able to have sexual romantic relationships with both men and women because they’re just not into both genders. She is into both genders.  And that’s fine.  But she needs to learn how to choose her words better, because she just fell into a right-wing trap, willingly.  When the religious right says it’s a choice, they mean you quite literally choose your sexual orientation, you can change it at will, and that’s bull……

…….Every religious right hatemonger is now going to quote this woman every single time they want to deny us our civil rights.  Thanks.

I actually agree with Aravosis on this one.  You are straight, Gay or Bi.  If you have a choice then you are Bi.  Done.  I also agree with Aravosis, her interview was self- righteous and somewhat irresponsible, but that’s what fame and money are about these days.  And that’s why we have gossip blogs….to capture it all for your reading pleasure.
