Dirk Nowitzki and Jessica Olsson’s Kenyan Wedding Pictures Hit the Net!
Earlier this month we found out that Dirk Nowitzki was not only having one wedding but two. Dirk is of German decent (Duh..Nowitzki?) and his wife Jessica Olsson’s mom is from Kenya, so the two decided to do what rich people do, waste money.
The couple had two weddings, one in Germany and the other in Kenya. Up until yesterday we only heard rumors of the Kenyan wedding. Well now photos have been released of Dirk Nowitzki going Kenyan style.
What People Do for Love
Nowitzki was already an honorary brother just because of the way he handled the rock, but now he has taken his brother hood to another level. He might even be more black then me after this. Jessica whose mother is Kenyan and father is Swedish wanted to have a Kenyan wedding despite the fact her parents live in Sweden. Basically….wasting money.
A WEDDING, KENYAN STYLE
As I just recently learned, the wedding was actually Kikuyu style and is commonly referred to as Ngurario. (Don’t worry there, will NOT be a quiz later).
Apparently they did a shorter version of the Kikuyu wedding which is basically to announce that one of the daughters of the community is engaged. It allows relatives from both sides to get to know each other and conclude what they call ruracio. Ruracio are dowry payments, or money, goods or propriety that a woman brings into the marriage. This practice doesn’t exist in the states. When a couple goes through the ruracio phase, their wedding is officially recognized by customary laws.
All of this happened back during the weekend of July 15th but pictures of Dirk in his Kenyan gear hit the internet today.
AREN’T THEY MOVING KIND OF FAST?
Depends. If you are Dirk I would say yes. If you are Jessica, I’m sure she couldn’t get the German giant down the isle fast enough. Jessica and Dirk have only been dating a year, they met last summer. She’s the associate Director of the Goss Michael Foundation art gallery in Dallas.
With all these shenanigans, two weddings, only dating for a year and her working in an art gallery? All I have to say is I hope Dirk got a pre-nup. A sista is about to take him for a ride.
