Tommy Mottola Takes Credit For Mariah’s Success and Defends Beyonce’s National Anthem Lip Sync Decision.
I love it when people try to take the responsibility for an ex’s uber success. Just like Ray J and Kim Kardashian, Tommy Mottola is now saying that he had a large role in Mariah Carey’s success. Although this might be true, as in the case with Ray J, when you say it, it just comes across as sour grapes. In Mottola’s case, this is no exception.
Tommy Mottola is releasing his a new book, that is why he is suddenly relevant. It’s not a coincidence that the book just so happens to hit shelves at a time that Mariah is re-rising to super stardom with her new American Idol gig.
Mottola took to the TODAY show and was very unapologetic about previous claims from Mariah that called him controlling. He has no regrets. He told Lauer,
“I think anybody that’s successful becomes obsessive about what they’re trying to succeed at. I have nothing but the greatest respect for her in the world…. I feel great about all the things she’s achieved as a result of all the work that we did.”
Did you read that last line? The work that “we” did.
The two were married for 5 years but from the beginning the union was questionable. Mariah Carrey was only 23 at the time and Mottola was 43. That’s worlds apart in age, maturity, values and just about everything else you can think of. Mottola had a vision and sacrificed his marriage in making it happen.
Mottola admits that it was a mistake to pursue a personal relationship with Carey, but he is not mad at the outcome. He explains,
“You can never control sometimes what happens in your personal life, as we all know. The good thing that came out of all of this is that she became one of the most successful superstars in the world.”
WELL WHAT ABOUT BEYONCE AND THE BILF (Beyonce Inauguration Lip-sync Fiasco)?
Matt Lauer wanted to get Mottola’s professional opinion on Beyonce not singing the anthem live. Mottola’s response was very pro-Beyonce.
“Beyonce is one of the greatest singers in the world, and my feeling is, any time that she wants to get up and sing, she can sing as well if not better than anyone, and everyone should just leave Beyonce alone!”
Here is Tommy Mottola’s Interview with Matt Lauer. Mottola has a networth of $200 Million
