Mystery Dick Van Dyke Illness?
The beloved actor Dick Van Dyke is having to cancel all of his planned appearances for next week due to a neurological disorder. Dick is a very healthy looking 87-year-old and he was scheduled to appear in New York city on April 26 to receive 92Y’s first Lifetime Achievement Award for Bettering Humanity through comedy. Sadly, the veteran entertainer had to cancel due to a mystery neurological disorder. A rep for the actor told Entertainment Tonight that he is suffering with, “fatigue and lack of sleep resulting from symptoms of a yet-to-be diagnosed neurological disorder.”
Sources say he will be resting at his home in Malibu with his wife. It is believed that he will be taking it easy until he gets a correct diagnosis. In fact, Dick appears to be so confused by his condition that he’s asking for advice on his Twitter account. He asked his large number of followers,
“My head bangs every time I lay down. I’ve had every test come back that I’m perfectly healthy. Anybody got any ideas?”
He explained some of his symptoms, saying, he is suffering from a pulsing-sensation in his head. Dick also claims that he has been suffering from this mystery illness for seven years now and has had multiple tests. CAT scans, MRIs and even an extremely uncomfortable spinal tap. However, the tests have not provided any clues, and nothing has relieved his symptoms. He’s now reaching out to the public, though. The irritating symptom is now making it hard to sleep.
A lot of people have responded to his cry for help on Twitter. Some followers tried to offer serious suggestions, while some people made light of the situation. Comic Elayne Boosler joked that maybe Dick should stop sleeping on the drum kit. And while we are sure that the harmless joke probably brought a smile to Dick’s face, his situation is not something to be taken lightly. A rep told Entertainment Tonight
“Dick is otherwise in good physical condition but the fatigue has become acute.”
Of course, lack of sleep might cause Dick to suffer new symptoms if his situation doesn’t get under control.
Dick Van Dyke’s television career started back in 1954 when he appeared on Dennis James’ Chance of a Lifetime. He then went on to appear on The Phil Silvers show and eventually starred in his own show named The Dick Van Dyke show in 1961. The extremely successful show ended in 1966.
Good luck, Dick!
