Seth Meyers Wins Empty Late-Night Hosting Gig
SNL funny man, Seth Meyers will be entering the scary land of late-night talk shows. NBC announced on Sunday that Meyers will succeed Jimmy Fallon who is set to take over Jay Leno’s timeslot. This move does not come as a surprise, many people had predicted that Seth Meyers would get the job. After all, he was a fairly obvious choice, considering his success with NBC’s SNL. NBC said in a statement released on Sunday,
“We think Seth is one of the brightest, most insightful comedy writers and performers of his generation. His year’s at SNL’s ‘Weekend Update’ desk, not to mention being head writer of the show for many seasons, helped him hone a topical brand of comedy that is perfect for the ‘Late Night’ franchise.”
Meyers and Fallon won’t be in their new roles until sometime early next year, but Meyers is already excited about the incredible opportunity. He expressed joy on his Twitter account yesterday, thanking NBC and his mother, of course. He also had this to say before he went live on SNL on Saturday night,
“Working at ‘SNL’ requires 100 percent of your mental capacity — on easy weeks. And so I had not really spent a lot of time thinking about what I was going to do next. Obviously I can’t quit Lorne (Michaels). So this seems like a pretty good deal that I have an opportunity to keep working with him.”
Seth Meyers, huh? It doesn’t excite me, but at least it helps with getting Jay Leno off the air.
