Chris Brown vs Atlanta’s LGBT Community – Breezi Responds to Accusations of Being a No Show
Atlanta Black Gay Pride Weekend is a big deal. A really big deal. People fly in from all over the country to celebrate their sexuality with party after party that spans from Wednesday to Monday. It’s the official end of the summer for the LGBT community.
Chris Brown was already in the area as part of his “One Hell of a Nite Tour”. He performed earlier that night to a star studded crowd at Aaron’s Amphitheater. That venue holds 19,000 people and Brown had it packed. This meant that Brown was in Atlanta, so for him to be at a local night club a few hours later, was not hard to believe at all. The event was sponsored by a group called Traxx Girls and was supposed to take place at a night club called The Georgia Freight Depot. It was the hottest ticket in town and the place to be after the Chris Brown concert. The event was living up to it’s hype with over 4000 women in attendance, some of which traveled from areas as far away as the UK.
…and Brown was a no-show. Sort of. Maybe….Or Traxx Girls Screwed up..or both?
This isn’t the first headline artist that Traxx Girls has booked so the group does have some credibility in this space. Melissa Scott the founder of Traxx Girls and party promoter for the event says that she suspects that Brown didn’t come because there were reportedly a handful of gay men in the crowd. Scott says that she paid Brown’s retainer and not only was he a no show, but he kept the retainer.
The Georgia Voice verified that Scott did exchange text messages with people claiming to be Chris Brown’s “team” as late as 2 AM. She said she was also asked to send photos of the crowd to verify that it was a lesbian audience. Scott says,
I was being told to take his (Brown’s) image down because he looks a little feminine in that image, an image that he took. As a promoter I should be focused on my crowd. I had to send text messages of pictures of my crowd to say, there’s nothing but girls in here man.
Scott went on to express how upset she was and how it was a shame that mainstream artists book events and take peoples money without following through on their commitments,
I think it’s unfortunate for mainstream artists to take people’s money with the complete prior knowledge of knowing what the event is and being very clear about what the event is about. I’m completely baffled. You know it’s gay pride. You knew you agreed when you sent the contract in and took the money.
BUT WAIT, BROWN WAS NEVER SUPPOSED TO PERFORM!
Brown did respond to the allegations saying that he had no idea that he was even supposed to show up to the event. He took to twitter and posted the following tweets.
I wasn't aware or informed of a show I supposedly cancelled. I have nothing but love and respect for the LGBT COMMUNITY.

The show was never confirmed by any of my people. So I apologize if the fans wanted me there.

I honestly wasn't booked for the show. Hopefully in the future we can do it right. Much love LGBT

The crazy part of all of this, was that Brown was never supposed to perform anyway. He was there to only introduce R&B artist Teyanna Taylor who opened for him that night at the Amphitheater. INTRO DUCE!! Talking about taking people’s money!!
This flyer gives no indication that Brown was not performing.
I’m sure Brown got back to his hotel room after his performance at the amphitheater and simply decided that he wasn’t going. He was just there to announce Teyanna and probably figured it wouldn’t be that big of a deal if he didn’t show. Again, nowhere on that flyer does it say that Teyanna was going to perform and Brown wasn’t. It looks like they are both going to be there and they are both going to perform.
Traxx Girls is wrong for that flyer and Brown is probably wrong for blowing off the event, but knowing that he was just going to introduce Teyanna Taylor and the fact that she did show up along with Fetty Wap who is also an opening act for Brown, makes the situation not as bad as originally portrayed.
I think that Brown actually did Melisa Scott a favor. Scott told the press,
It broke my heart to do that to my crowd. Some people flew in from LA. I had 100 girls who flew in from the UK to hang out with this guy in an environment they’re comfortable in,
If Brown would have showed up and not performed everyone would have been angry at Scott and not Brown. I’m not sure weather Chris is homophobic or not, but I guarantee that he knows there are gay men at every single one of his shows. Let’s not forget that he just performed at the the amphitheater, in Atlanta Georgia, during Black Pride Weekend. You might have trouble finding a straight man in that sea of 19,000 people.
Now weather Chris Brown wanted to sit in VIP with a bunch of guys hanging all over him is a whole different story. However 4000 girls, I don’t think he would have minded that at all. Right Chris!
So far there has been no reaction to Chris Brown’s response.
LAST WORD
If I was part of the LGBT community I wouldn’t want to book an artist who didn’t want gay men to be in the crowd. As soon as I had to show proof that there were no men in the audience, I would have been done. To do that feels like an agreement that being a gay woman is ok, but being a Gay man is not. I have little experience in this arena, I just know that I treat my gay male and female friends the same (as I treat everyone). It just seems like there was some tolerance of that behavior just so Chris Brown could be there. IMHO.
