Dr. Dre Close To Selling Music Catalog For Over $200 Million, Get The Details Inside!
Dr. Dre is super close to being a billionaire. His estimated net worth currently sits at around $820 million, but it could jump up over $1 billion if a huge $200 million deal goes through.
According to Variety, the legendary rapper is closing in on a deal to sell his music catalog and streaming ventures for a little over $200 million. TMZ says it would actually be two different deals, one with Shamrock Holdings and another one with Universal Music Group.
The possible Shamrock deal looks like this … Dre sells his artist royalties from two of his solo albums — his share of N.W.A artist royalties, plus his producer royalties and the writer’s share of the music where he doesn’t own publishing rights.
The deal with Universal Music would be Dre selling the master recording of his first solo album, The Chronic, plus his share of some Kendrick Lamar music.
It’s important to note that Dre is not selling off all his music. In fact, Billboard describes these transactions as mostly “passive income streams” that bring in around $10 million annually.
This deal does not include ownership rights to the label Aftermath, which Dre co-owns with Interscope Records.
So basically, Dre’s not really giving away anything he can’t live without. He’s still holding on to his most prized possessions, and he’s making over $200 million while doing it.
That’s not a bad way to start 2023, especially if your New Year’s resolution was to become a billionaire.
