Hugh Jackman Reveals More Details Regarding the New Wolverine Movie
Hugh Jackman recently shed some light on the new Wolverine movie clearing up some rumors that had some people nervous.
The new Wolverine will not have plot ties to 2009’s “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”. That’s why it’s not called Wolverine 2. Hugh Jackman explained the rationale behind this thought process,
We’ve deliberately not called it Wolverine 2 because we want it to be placed and feel like a standalone picture.
“With an all-new cast and setting it in Japan, it’s going to give us a whole new visual aesthetic.”
No matter how you slice it, Wolverine is a big budget, big brand movie, but they are focusing on plot and quality rather than big set and over the top spending. They did not want to overload the film with extreme special effects and hundreds of mutants, a decision which has driven them to take a different approach emphasizing more depth in the plot. Let’s not forget, Hugh can act. Jackman says,
“The approach to character means we won’t be overloaded with mutants and teams and the like, so it’ll be more character-based. I think in many ways it will feel like a completely different X-Men film.”
The storyline revolves around Wolverine (Logan) falling in love with a Japanese woman that is already spoken for. Her hand in marriage has been promised to another man. The couple insist upon carrying out their forbidden love which puts Logan at odds with the woman’s family…mainly her brothers who happen to be highly skilled Samurai Swordsmen.
The plot was developed by Christopher McQuarrie. Jackman says this type of plot and character development is different and was just the catalyst needed to get things moving. He explains,
“So we went to Christopher McQuarrie, who was involved in X-Men and The Usual Suspects. He’s a brilliant writer and he came up with a concept that was just phenomenal. I rang Jeffrey and he went ‘Great, now you have a good idea, just go for it.'”
After many setbacks including (Darren) Aronofsky leaving the director role and the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, filming is underway and Hugh Jackman is ecstatic,
“I’m just really glad it’s happening. For a while it’s felt like a rocky ride.
“I think it’s the best idea we’ve had, the strongest script we’ve had and that now we really have an opportunity to make something really great.
“I’ve been waiting for it so long now. I think half the material in my one-man show is about the wait for The Wolverine!”
During filming, Jackman will frequently post updates and photos. During the first day he posted this tweet along with a picture of his meal,

Although a huge portion of the film will be shot on location in Japan, filming has started in Hugh Jackman’s country in Sydney, Australia something that he is very proud of. It will provide a boost of about $8 million to the local economy.
July 26, 2013 Wolverine is scheduled to hit theaters. It will join Iron Man 3 as the 2013, super hero summertime blockbusters.
Here are some scenes from the movie and a clip of the production set in Australia mocked up to look like a Japanese POW camp.
