Miranda Lambert and Luke Bryan Win Big!
The Academy of Country Music Awards took place last night on CBS and Luke Bryan and Miranda Lambert proved to be the night’s big winners. Miranda Lambert won Female Vocalist of the Year, beating out other female superstars like, Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood. She moved the crowd with an extremely touching speech where she was fighting back tears the entire time. She said,
“Last night, a huge dream of mine came true. I went from being a little girl singing in a hairbrush to watching Shania Twain with Faith Hill and Reba McEntire and Kelly Clarkson. I cried all night because I’ll never not be a fan of those beautiful women.”
She also said that Carrie Underwood “damn well” deserved the honor instead of her. Miranda also won three awards for her hit single, “Over You” which she actually co-wrote with her husband, Blake Shelton. The emotional song was written for Shelton’s brother who passed away in 1990 in a tragic car accident. Lambert said,
“As a songwriter, having your song and your lyrics recognized by your peers is pretty much as good as it gets. And I’m so thankful for being in this genre of country music, every single time someone’s nominated, I just cheer, because I love everybody to death.”
Meanwhile, Luke Bryan won the biggest award of the night, Entertainer of the Year! He beat out fellow country stars, Miranda Lambert, Jason Aldean, Blake Shelton and Taylor Swift. Luke’s rise to the top has been a fast one, first hitting the country scene with his first album back in 2008. In fact, he is just now recently headlining his first arena tour, so the win was quite the shock to Luke and many of the audience members. Bryan said during his acceptance speech,
“I don’t know what to say guys. Thank you so much, fans, for doing this to me. Thank you so much for making my life what it is. What I always wanted to be was just a country singer who got to ride on a tour bus and show up on a new stage and play music every night.”
Luke’s win was certainly shocking, but even more shocking? Taylor Swift didn’t even win one award last night! The star got shutout, and one has to wonder if it has anything to do with her songs becoming more and more “pop” sounding? Perhaps, the country fan base is sending a message to the 23-year-old. She was nominated for four awards, but still managed to leave the building with both of her hands completely free of any awards.
