Jennifer Lawrence Says It Should Be Illegal to Call Somebody Fat

Well, the beautiful and talented Jennifer Lawrence was named one of 2013’s most fascinating people, which mean she got to sit down with Barbara Walters. What a prize, right?

The award-winning actress talked about a lot of things during the interview, but she really spoke at length about how rude and inconsiderate the media is.

“Why is humiliating people funny? I get it, I do it too. We all do it. … But I think when it comes to the media, the media needs to take responsibility for the effect that it has on our younger generation.

On these girls that are watching these television shows and picking up how to talk and how to be cool. … So then all of a sudden being funny is making fun of the girl that’s wearing an ugly dress.”

And then she talked about how much she hates the word “fat”

“And the word fat! I just think it should be illegal to call somebody fat on TV. I mean, if we’re regulating cigarettes and sex and cuss words because of the effect it has on our younger generation, why aren’t we regulating things like calling people fat?”

She makes a lot of good points. It’s a lot easier to be mean to somebody now. Not only because of the internet, but also because it’s just the “cool” thing to do now. Obviously, a ban on the word fat is never going to happen, but I think she was just using that to make a point.

Some people are fat, right? But, would you go on television and start making fun of your neighbor because of his weight? No. That would be a mean and hurtful thing to do, right? But people do that on TV and on the internet all the time.

Obesity is a big problem in America. People eat too damn much and then they sit around and do nothing all day. That’s a problem, but laughing at someone and calling them fat isn’t going to help.

We all could learn a thing or two from this man…
