Rihanna Claims Former Accountant Left Her “Effectively Bankrupt” In 2009
Rihanna was “effectively bankrupt” back in 2009, according to legal docs filed in connection with the lawsuit Rihanna filed against her former accountant.
TMZ reports that the 25-year-old singer was in some serious financial trouble at the end of 2009 after her accountant failed to tell her she was losing money during her Last Girl on Earth tour. The document claims the accountant handled Rihanna’s finances so poorly that the singer went from $11 million at the start of 2009 to just $2 million by the end of it.
Rihanna also claims the accountant irresponsibly let her purchase a house that cost almost $7.5 million. She ended up selling the house and took a $2 million loss.
Like we said, this all goes back to the lawsuit Rihanna filed against her former accounting firm back in 2012. It is believed this letter has been added to the case to provide further proof of the mismanagement.
[more…]I certainly understand why Rihanna is upset. She hired a professional to help her and it appears that they did a really crappy job. However, it seems like she should also take a little responsibility in this.
Why did she even want to buy a house that cost $7.5 million at the age of 21? That’s just a silly thing to do. What the hell was she planning on doing with the house? It just doesn’t make any sense, plus, you know she spends most of her time on the road.
These young stars need to start taking better care of their money. Some of them won’t be as lucky as Rihanna. She blew up, she made $43 million in 2013 alone. However, there are a lot of young stars out there who only have success for a few years. They make a few million, thinking their fame will last forever, and then they are broke two years later.
Be smart with your money! Make that sh-t last.
