Sum 41’s Deryck Whibley Nearly Died From Alcohol Abuse, Doctors Warn One More Drink Could Kill Him
Deryck Whibley, the frontman for Sum 41, posted a terrifying blog post the other day titled, “Rock Bottom.” In the lengthy blog post, Whibley revealed he had been extremely sick in the hospital for a month.
The 34-year-old explained all the “hard boozing” he’s been doing over the years hit him hard. He explained that he had been drinking hard every day, until one night he was at home, just pouring another drink, when he suddenly collapsed. His fiancee rushed him to the hospital where he was immediately admitted to ICU.
He was completely sedated for one week. When he woke up, doctors informed that his liver and kidneys collapsed on him.
[more…]“I finally realized that I can’t drink anymore. If I have one drink the doc’s (sic) say I will die. I’m not preaching or anything, but just drink responsibly. I didn’t, and look where that got me.”
Whibley did manage to end the post with some positivity. He told his fans that he’s ready to start making music again.
“anyway i have my passion and inspiration back for writing music. i already have a few song ideas for new songs. soon it will be time to start making an album and getting back to touring again. see you all sometime! there will be more posts again so say up to date friends.”
Good for him. Hopefully he has a big support group at home. Even though he titled the post “Rock Bottom” he really didn’t hit rock bottom. The doctors saved him from rock bottom.
Stay strong.
