The Ray Rice Dramatic Elevator Video Release Leads to Raven’s Termination and NFL Suspension. (Video)
We called it. I knew this video would be shocking. Honestly, how could it not be?
After the original video was leaked of Rice removing his then fiancé out of the elevator, the NFL suspended Rice for 2 games. After an incredible backlash from the media, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell admitted that the punishment was too light and he decided to suspend Rice for 6 games.
BUT NOW….
After the new video of the full attack has been surfaced, Rice’s contract with the Raven’s has been terminated. This clearly shows that the NFL doesn’t have a good handle on their domestic abuse policy. Rice has been suspended indefinitely, jeopardizing a $50 Million dollar contract that he was in the middle of negotiating. In a released statement, the NFL said,
“Commissioner Roger Goodell has announced that based on the new video evidence that became available today, he has imposed an indefinite suspension on Ray Rice,”
Rice will have to reapply to play again in the NFL. During the previous suspension by the NFL the Ravens did not publically discipline Rice, but within hours of this video, the Ravens announced Rice’s release on their Twitter account. They even go a step further and delete victim blaming tweet they posted during their defense of Rice’s actions.
THE NFL SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER
The commissioner and the Ravens organization should have predicted this. They should have predicted the video release and that it would be devastating. In their best scenario, Ray would have been defending himself against a Jay-Z like attack but this is not the case. Even if it was, this attack would not be justified. It appears he hits her twice; the 2nd blow knocking her out cold. The NFL player does not even adequately remove her unconscious body from the elevator. He lets her head hit the ground and a few times, he’s seen kicking at her leg in a lame effort to remove her away from the elevator so that the door can close.
Rice is not a small dude. If I were Janay Palmer’s father or brother, they would have to pull me off of Ray Rice’s ass. For Palmer to watch this video and still be able to sleep in the same bed as this man is also crazy. Domestic abuse is real and if someone tells you different have them watch this video.
