Tupac’s Mother Afeni Shakur Dead At 69, Get The Details Inside
Some sad news to report today. Afeni Shakur, mother of hip-hop legend Tupac, has died at just 69-years-old. Marin County deputies responded to her home in California on Monday night after learning Afeni suffered possible cardiac arrest.
She was rushed to the hospital, but it was too late. The Sheriff’s Coroners Office will lead the investigation to determine exactly how she died. Right now, it’s looking like it had something to do with her heart.
Afeni was born in North Carolina back on January 10, 1947. She was a known political activist and former member of the Black Panther party. In 1969, she and other members of the party were arrested and charged with conspiracy to bomb multiple city landmarks.
But things turned around for her in 1971 when she was acquitted on all charges and gave birth to Tupac just one month later. After struggling with a drug addiction in the 1980s and damaging her relationship with Tupac, she cleaned up her act and developed an even stronger relationship with her son.
You can listen to his “Dear Mama” song in the video below.
Afeni took over the late rapper’s estate, which reportedly earns close to $1 million each year. She also started the Tupac Amaru Foundation for the Arts, which helps children get involved in the arts.
Our thoughts go out to her family and friends.
