Selma Blair Provides Update On Her MS Battle, And There Is Some Good News!
Back in 2018, Selma Blair shared her MS diagnosis with the world. It has been a battle ever since. In 2022, she had to drop out as a contestant on Dancing With the Stars due to her condition. Doctors were worried she was doing more harm to her body. The intense training sparked stress fractures and bleeding in her knee.
Now, several months later, Blair is providing us with an update. In an interview with ‘Self‘ magazine, the 50-year-old actress talked a lot about her multiple sclerosis diagnosis, and how she has finally stopped having regression.
She underwent a stem cell transplant to treat the illness, and while it helped a lot, the damage MS has done to her body is irreparable.
I’m so much better, but it haunts my physical cells. It’s there. Some people wake up two years later and they’re like, ‘I’m healed! Colors are brighter!’ But I never had that moment. I just stopped having regression.
She also talked about how the diagnosis made her a better person in some ways.
It really did rewire me. It rewired me to find acceptance in being honest about my faults, about my past addiction, and about my problems. It made me more empathetic towards myself.
It changed the way she thought about herself, but also how she approached the entertainment industry. She found herself becoming an advocate for people with disabilities.
There’s just so much realizing that people feel that they are a burden, and it takes away from your work. It takes away from focusing on your right to be there just as much as everyone else on the set. Let’s get used to this. Let’s build this into our base camps.
Sounds like she’s making the best out of an unfortunate situation.
