Ryan Seacrest Is Leaving ‘Live with Kelly And Ryan’ And He’ll Be Replaced By Kelly Ripa’s Husband!
Another host is leaving Kelly Ripa. You’ll remember Michael Strahan came in after Regis Philbin retired to become the new co-host sitting next to mainstay Ripa. That experiment didn’t last long though, and Strahan ended up leaving to go to Good Morning America, much to the chagrin of Ripa.
Then in 2017, Ryan Seacrest joined the show, and for the past six years, things have been going great. It looked as if Ryan might turn into the new Regis, but unfortunately, he announced his departure sixteen minutes into Thursday morning’s show.
This is something that [Kelly] and I have been talking about for a long time, and it was a tough, tough decision. Last year we spoke, and I made the decision to make this my last season as co-host. What I plan to do is once ‘American Idol’ starts from Los Angeles later this spring, I’ll head out to the West Coast and host that show.
Last year, he attempted to do both at the same time, and it looks like it was too much for him. I mean, we have to remember he also has a radio show and produces multiple other shows, so the dude has a lot on his plate.
And it looks like he’s leaving on good terms with Ripa. She called Seacrest one of her best friends and noted he was only supposed to stay for three years, but ended up being with her for six.
She then dropped the news that her husband, Mark Consuelos, would be coming in to replace Seacrest.
The only person I can think of that is capable of holding [Ryan’s] torch the way [he has] held it would be my husband, Mark Consuelos, in what Ryan and I are calling the nation’s weirdest social experiment.
Mark has been on as a guest host several times, so we’re sure he’ll slide into the full-time role just fine. I think this move actually makes a lot of sense.
He and Ripa have been married since 1996 and share three children together, so you know their bond is strong.
