At Least 10 People Injured In Mass Shooting In Denver After Nuggets Win NBA Championship
As expected, the Denver Nuggets easily beat the Miami Heat in the NBA finals. No one truly believed Miami had a shot against Jokic and the Nuggets.
The Nuggets won 94-89 last night, losing just one game to the Heat in the best of 7 series. It was the first championship title for Denver, and the city certainly went wild after the victory.
A little too wild. According to multiple reports, at least 10 people were wounded in a mass shooting early Tuesday morning in Denver. The shooting went down at around 12:30 am, around three hours after the game had ended.
A suspect, one of the 10 wounded, has been taken into custody by the Denver Police Department. Police believe multiple shots were fired in a dispute between several people roughly a mile from Ball Arena, where the Nuggets defeated the Miami Heat in Game 5 of the NBA Finals on Monday night.
Three of the people injured were in critical condition. The rest of the injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.
Police aren’t sure what sparked the shooting, but they are working to investigate. It took place in the area where the majority of people were celebrating, so it’s likely someone got into a drunken argument and pulled out a gun.
Schepman said police had beefed up their presence in the area in advance of the celebration. ‘We had a lot of officers in that immediate area of 20th and Market when the shooting occurred, which is why the response to it was so quick.’
Hopefully everyone that was injured can make a full recovery.
This is why you won’t catch me on the streets celebrating any team’s title! I don’t care how much I love the franchise. I’ll be on my living room couch, eating a bowl of cereal and watching highlights.
