Matthew Perry’s Ex Molly Hurwitz Speaks Out Following His Death, Calls Him A Talented And Complicated Man
As we’re sure you all have heard by now, ‘Friends‘ actor Matthew Perry passed away inside his Los Angeles home at the age of 54 this past weekend. We still don’t know the cause of death, but reports say he was found inside his jacuzzi, which seems to indicate he lost consciousness and drowned.
Police say no drugs were found at the scene, which had to be a question in everyone’s mind, considering Perry has struggled with addiction for most of his adult life.
Because of his struggles with addiction, Perry never really went the traditional route of finding a woman, marrying her and having kids with her. He was a loner for a lot of years, but the closest he ever got was with literary manager, Molly Hurwitz.
They were with each other from 2018 to 2021 and were engaged to be married before splitting in June of 2021. There was speculation that Perry was still talking to women on dating apps, but it’s not clear if that was during their time together, or directly after the split.
In any event, Perry had deep love for Hurwitz, and she obviously had love for him. She went on her Instagram on Monday morning to pay tribute to the late actor, and she did not paint their time together as some happily ever after. She was raw and honest with her words, admitting no one has ever caused her pain quite like Perry.
But, I obviously knew that man in a very different way, too. While I loved him deeper than I could comprehend, he was complicated, and he caused pain like I’d never known. No one in my adult life has had a more profound impact on me than Matthew Langford Perry. I have tremendous gratitude for that, for everything I learned from our relationship.
She talked about how they rewatched ‘Friends’ ahead of the reunion, and she loved watching Perry give credit to himself for his comedy skills…
He would love that the world is talking about how talented he was. And he really was very talented. As the Friends reunion was approaching, we rewatched the show together. ‘F–k, I was so good!!!…See what I did there???’ We rewound and studied scenes. Our respect and appreciation of humor is something that connected us. Being with him as he rediscovered his brilliance was magical.
In addition to Hurwitz, several other stars paid tribute to Perry, including the entire ‘Friends’ cast. They decided to release a joint statement, noting that in time, they will say more, but for right now? They need time to mourn.
We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family. There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss. In time we will say more, as and when we are able. For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world.
Our thoughts go out to his friends and family.
