MTV ‘Challenge’ Star Nelson Thomas Will Have His Foot Amputated One Year After Near-Fatal Crash
As some of you may remember, ‘The Challenge‘ star Nelson Thomas nearly died in a fiery car accident back in March of last year. The accident happened in Austin, TX, when Thomas lost control of his vehicle and slammed into a bridge.
His car caught on fire while he was still inside, but thankfully some local heroes pulled him out just in time to save his life. It was later determined he was intoxicated at the time of the crash. His blood alcohol content was more than double the legal limit.
Now, one year later, Thomas is still dealing with injuries from the crash. His foot has never really recovered from the accident, and in a recent post on his Instagram, the 35-year-old reality star revealed he and his doctors have agreed to amputate it.
March 5th 2023 remains vivid in my memory, a persistent presence in my thoughts. I consciously embrace it as the initiation of a new chapter. Opting for amputation, I am determined to own March 5th and redefine its significance in my life. Get ready, amputation world! I’m on my way! I am scheduled for surgery on March 5th, 2024.
Pretty neat that they’re able to do the surgery exactly one year to the date of the crash. Thomas also included photos of himself throughout the past year during his recovery. He spoke over the montage, explaining the decision to remove his foot.
I had to ask myself what kind of life do I want to live and what kind of quality of life do I want to live? I think I’m at peace with it, and it’s time. I’m ready to move on with my life, and I’m ready to see the other side of the world.
It’s no doubt going to be a long recovery, but Thomas is a strong dude and he has a huge support system around him, so we’re sure he’ll be just fine.
Listen to the audio below, it’s pretty interesting…
