‘American Idol’ Alum Mandisa Has Died At The Age Of 47
Some sad news to report, Grammy-winner singer and former American Idol contestant, Mandisa, has passed away at the young age of 47.
Christian rock radio station K-Love announced the news. No cause of death has been revealed, but the chief media officer of the radio station did release this statement…
Mandisa struggled, and she was vulnerable enough to share that with us, which helped us talk about our own struggles. Mandisa’s struggles are over. She is with the God she sang about now. While we are saddened, Mandisa is home. We’re praying for Mandisa’s family and friends and ask you to join us.
We don’t want to speculate, but this statement makes you wonder if she took her own life. For those who don’t know, she released a memoir back in 2022 titled ‘Out of the Dark,’ where she wrote about all the trauma she endured as a teenager. She was raped and suffered a myriad of mental health struggles because of it.
At one point, she says she contemplated suicide, but was saved by her friends who staged an intervention for her.
I went to counseling as a result of their intervention. And who knew that talking about these things, it’s actually good and healthy for you? It’s not a sign of weakness.
Her music helped a lot of people. She made the top 10 of American Idol back in 2006 and released her debut album, True Beauty, just one year later. She then found major success as a Christian artist, releasing a number of hits such as Stronger and Good Morning.
Our thoughts go out to her friends and family.
