“The Dream” on how he made $15 Million for Writing Rihanna’s hit “Umbrella” and his Relationship with Christina Milian.
Have you ever heard that the real money is made, actually behind the scenes? This was kind of confirmed by The Dream if his claims can be believed.
He was in Tim Westwood’s neck of the woods, (London), where he gave a rather revealing interview. Between the steady noises of a pseudo-Funk Master Flex bomb drop, and Tim Westwood’s annoying accent, I learned among other interesting things about The Dream is that he made $15 million for writing “Umbrella” for Rihanna.
Could this really be true? “Umbrella” was the number one album in Australia, Canada, Germany, France, the Republic of Ireland, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The song sold 6.6 million copies making it one of the bestselling singles of all time. Is that enough to give The dream $15 million from it?
I just don’t think so – but then again…anything is possible these days. Ala’ “The Situation” and others who are banking hard with no talent.
He also talks about writing “Baby” for Justin Bieber…and how he asked Chris Hicks, who was the Executive VP of Def Jam at the time, to pay for his room, which is usually $3200 per night. He says that he cut Christina Milian in on the money from it, because he was nice, not because she wrote the melody claimed.
So I take away, The Dream is an arrogant a$$, but an extremely rich arrogant ass, and that although Tim Westwood’s accent always takes some adjusting to, he’s actually pretty damn funny.
