alana Thompson stars as Honey Boo Boo on the TLC Show “Here comes Honey Boo Boo”

How Much Does Honey Boo Boo Really Make?

Not nearly as much as one thinks.  TLC played a hunch and is cashing in big time from Alana Thompson.  Alana and her family were first featured on the controversial series “Toddlers & Tiaras” and highlighted when a clip of Alana’s interview went viral, racking up more than 4.5 million views on Youtube.  TLC thought they might be on to something and offered the Thompson family a spin off show of their own.

So far the gamble has been a good one for the network. Here Comes Honey Boo Boo’s last episode which aired on August 29th showed a ratings increase of 30% over the previous week and embarrassingly enough, beat out every networks coverage of the Republican National Convention!  Yes – Honey Boo boo beat out Clint Eastwood and his empty chair.

So how much does TLC shell out to the Thompson family which brought the channel 3 million viewers worth of ad revenue?  How about $2000 to $4000 per episode.  This would max the Thompson family out at $40,000 for the 10 episode season.   The family might also receive a location fee, similar to when someone is paid to use their home or property for filming.

This type of profit margin is similar to what MTV experienced during the earlier seasons of “The Jersey Shore”, when expectations and salaries were low.  Will there be a Season 2 of Honey Boo Boo?  Right now all indicators are pointing to an overwhelming yes.

Since the $40,000 figure was released, the Thompson family says it’s much more, but will not reveal exact amounts.  June Thompson commented to TMZ, telling them they make well more then $40K and commented “We’re very well compensated.”
