J. Cole and Drake Apologize For Insensitive Autism Lyric
J. Cole continues to rise in the rapping world after becoming the first artist to sign with Jay Z’s new label. He now has several hits under his belt and the sky is the limit for the 28-year-old rapper. However, he has found himself in some hot water lately over an extremely offensive lyric in his part of Drake’s song, ‘Jodeci Freestyle.’
In the song, J. Cole calls himself “artistic” and then claims his rivals are “retarded” and “autistic.” This understandably outraged the autistic community and now J. Cole has been forced to apologize…
“I want to educate myself more on Autism, and I’ll gladly own my mistake and serve as an example to today’s generation that there’s nothing cool about mean-spirited comments about someone with Autism.
People with this disorder and their loved ones have to go through so much already, the last thing they need is to hear something as ignorant as what I said.”
Of course, Drake has also released his own statement on the issue,
“I share responsibility and offer my sincerest apologies for the pain this has caused. Individuals with autism have brilliant and creative minds, and their gifts should not be disparaged or discounted. This was a learning lesson for both of us, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to try to right this wrong.”
I’m disappointed in them both, but I am really disappointed in Drake. You would think that a guy who is stuck in a wheelchair for the rest of is life would understand how difficult life is for people with disabilities.
My head is shaking at you, Drake. Not cool, man. Not cool.
