10 Celebrities Who Have Reportedly Attempted Suicide
Reports show that over 350 million people of all ages suffer from depression. The person writing this right now has actually battled depression, and there is a decent chance the person reading this right now has also experienced depression. If you are one of the lucky ones who haven’t, there is an even better chance you know someone who has. It’s an incredibly common mental disorder, and no amount of money or fame can prevent it.

No. 10 – Paris Jackson
This one was pretty recent, so you may remember hearing about it. The daughter of Michael Jackson was 15-years-old when she tried to end her life back in 2013. According to the emergency call made at the time, Jackson had “OD’d on 20 Motrin and cut her arm with a kitchen knife.”
Thankfully, she was treated by emergency officials and recovered fully. Her family sent her to a boarding school in Utah after the incident, believing that a change of scenery is what she needed.
No. 9 – Billy Joel
After successfully destroying his friend’s marriage by having an affair with his wife, Billy Joel tried to commit suicide by swallowing “fistfuls” of Nembutal. He then called his friend to apologize before the Nembutal kicked in. His friend later found him on the floor and rushed him to the hospital. After waking up hours later, and realizing he was still alive, Joel said, “Oh great, I couldn’t even do this right.”
A few weeks later, he tried to commit suicide again by drinking furniture polish. He checked himself into a mental hospital after that, “The people I was locked up with were never going to be able to overcome their problems, whereas mine were all self-made.” He said, adding that it gave him hope he could be fixed.
No. 8 – Ken Griffey Jr.
At the age of 17, Ken Griffey Jr. attempted to end his own life after becoming extremely depressed and angry. He claims to have swallowed over 250 aspirin. He woke up in the intensive care unit at Providence Hospital in Mount Airy, Ohio.
“It seemed like everyone was yelling at me in baseball, then I came home and everyone was yelling at me there. I got depressed. I got angry. I didn’t want to live.”
Griffey says he made the story public to to help people going through some of the same things.

We all know Ozzy Osbourne has had a pretty crazy life. Struggling with drugs and alcohol most of his life. It is believed he has tried to commit suicide several times. His first attempt came at the age of 17 when he swallowed a ridiculous amount of sleeping pills. He claims he just wanted to know what it felt like to die.
No. 6 – Michael Jackson
Back in June of 2005, a false (trojan-filled) email was sent out claiming Mr. Jackson tried to end his life just before he was found not guilty. Computers all over the world were infected by the fake report. However, several trusted sources claim the King of Pop did try to kill himself later that year in December.
No. 5 – Oprah Winfrey
During an interview with Piers Morgan, Oprah revealed that she contemplated suicide when she became pregnant at the young age of 14. She even claims she swallowed laundry detergent during the pregnancy. According to the 61-year-old star, she was just crying out for help.
No. 4 – Drew Carey
You look at Drew Carey now and you see this happy guy who is full of life and love. But when he was younger, the comedian suffered from depression. He first tried to kill himself at just 18-years-old, and then again in his early 20s, both times overdosing on pills. Carey explains he beat his depression by learning how to believe in himself.
No. 3 – Fantasia Barrino
“I just wanted to be away from the noise.” Fantasia said after her suicide attempt back in 2010. The 2004 ‘American Idol‘ winner overdosed on a mixture of pills in her former Charlotte mansion. She was found nearly unconscious by her manager and was transported to a local hospital.
“I think I was just overloaded with everything, with carrying six years of so much.” She told reporters after making a full recovery.
No. 2 – Owen Wilson
Just like with Drew Carey, you think of Owen Wilson and you just start to laugh. After all, he starred in one of the greatest comedies ever, Wedding Crashers. But the 46-year-old actor was secretly battling with depression for a long time. And in 2007, he decided he couldn’t handle the pain anymore. He tried to kill himself by overdosing on pills while simultaneously cutting his wrist. His brother, Luke Wilson, was reportedly the one who found him and called for help.
No. 1 – Halle Berry
In an interview with Parade magazine, Halle Berry admitted she tried to commit suicide after her first marriage with MLB star David Justice collapsed. Instead of taking a handful of pills or slitting her wrist, Berry claims she tried to end things by carbon monoxide poisoning. The one thing that snapped her out of it was an image of her mother, “I was sitting in my car, and I knew the gas was coming when I had an image of my mother finding me. She sacrificed so much for her children, and to end my life would be an incredibly selfish thing to do.”
