Caleb’s Cause of Death Revealed; Father Billy Shows Us Both Sides of Mourning in An Emotional Video
When Caleb suddenly died last month fans went insane; mainly because there were no details released surrounding his death. The outcry for more information was so intense that the family had to release a statement. Although they did not understand the cause of death at the time, they at least had the authorities confirm that it was Caleb who died and that there was no foul play. For those who didn’t see the press release, here it is in it’s entirety:
***Due to the numerous inquiries both nationally and locally, the following information is being released. There is no criminal investigation, and case has been turned over to the Medical Examiners Office***
On Thursday, October 1, 2015, at approximately 7:00 p.m., Anne Arundel County Police Officers and Fire Department responded to a medical emergency of a thirteen year old male. Responding officers arrived and observed a juvenile male patient suffering from an unknown medical emergency. Fire Department personnel transported the juvenile to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
At this time there are no suspicious factors and/or suspected foul play. The juvenile has been transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) located in Baltimore, Maryland for an official autopsy. The OCME will determine the final cause and manner of death. Due to a large number of inquiries, we can confirm that the juvenile was known as Caleb Logan Bratayley from the popular YouTube episodes “Bratayley”.
Since there are no suspicious circumstances, this case has been turned over to the OCME, and is not being investigated by the police department. There is no further information at this time.
The actual cause of death has now been determined. Caleb had a heart condition known as Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. The office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore confirmed the cause and continuing in their tradition of complete transparency the family posted the results on Instagram along with a photo of Caleb that will make you grab a box of tissues.
The post, which has already received over 14,000 comments states:
The doctor confirmed today that Caleb passed away from a heart condition called Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy that went undetected in his yearly checkups. Caleb didn’t have any symptoms so the doctor said there was nothing we could have done differently. The girls’ hearts were just recently checked and thankfully look the way they should right now. The sadness of losing someone you love is unimaginable. Thank you to everyone who has reached out, your kindness and support continues to help our family. We miss our baked potato everyday.#calebratelife #celebratelife
They also continued doing what they do, they posted their daily video on Youtube. While some people can’t figure out how they can continue to be happy and post happy videos, the Bratayley’s address it with a statement in the description section.
We have decided to continue making videos for now. We will continue to grieve and miss Caleb everyday but we will not show it in the videos often. We have decided to honor him and continue this channel as it was intended, to be a celebration of life.
At the end of the day, for them, posting videos and raising their family still has to happen. For their kids they have to show them that life moves on and they can’t be sad forever after a tragic event. These videos are generating funds for their college education and securing a future for the entire family. If you had a death in the family and owned your own business, you would have to at least put on enough of a “happy face” to keep your business running while mourning. They are doing the same thing.
This family has some of the most loyal fans. I haven’t seen this kind of commitment since the early days of Justin Bieber (before he was a douche…although he un-douched and now he’s a douche again).

The most remarkable thing is that scrolling through the 1000’s of comments, I did not find one that was disrespectful. My faith in mankind and the internet has been restored…although I’m sure its temporary.
