Good Girl Taylor Swift Strikes Again, Donates 25,000 Books To Schools In NYC!

Before we talk about Taylor Swift being a lovely person again, I just want to point out that saying “good girl” is 1000% more creepy than saying, “good guy,” and I apologize for the creepiness in the title.

Anyway, so what about T-Swift? What about the SEVEN-time Grammy winner? What about the only artist to have three albums sell over one million copies in their first week of release? Well, she continues to be a great person. The 25-year-old musician has donated 25,000 new (and age-appropriate) books to 25 schools in New York City.

With the help of the Scholastic Possible Fund, each school will be receiving 1,000 new books. As some of you may know, Swift has a passion for helping people. She’s also been a long-time literacy advocate, so this was just a perfect storm of generosity.

Back in October of 2014, she actually hosted a webcast for classrooms, where she shared how books helped make her the person she is today. The video has been viewed by more than 4 million students across the country. You can check it out by clicking this link.

President of Scholastic Education released a statement last week talking about the great Taylor Swift…

Scholastic is honored to join with Taylor Swift who continues to show a passion for literacy and a commitment to spreading the message of how influential books can be in a child’s life. Through this donation, we aim to encourage independent reading, which inspires a love of learning and to ‘Open a World of Possible’ for more New York City students by making sure they have access to the very best children’s books.

This donation is coming at a truly important time. The most recent Family Reading Report discovered that children ages 6-17 from lower-income households are more likely to read books for fun inside school and less likely to read those books outside of school than their higher-income friends.

It feels nice starting off the week with good news, right? And bonus points for giving me flashbacks to my childhood with those spectacular book fairs we had in school. Does anyone else remember those? They were my Christmas.
