Ronda Rousey Gives First Interview Since Holly Holm Fight, Admits She Was Embarrassed After Shocking Loss
Ronda Rousey went into hiding following her devastating loss to Holly Holm at UFC 193 last month. Partly because she couldn’t talk because of the damage done to her mouth, but also because she was incredibly embarrassed by her performance.
During her first interview since the event, Rousey told ESPN The Magazine that she lost her game after getting hit with a Holm punch just 30 seconds into the fight. She never did recover after that. She couldn’t think clearly, which was obvious to everyone watching when she got up from the ground and left herself completely open to this vicious kick.
I’m still shocked Holm wasn’t charged with attempted murder…
“I just feel so embarrassed. How I fought after that is such an embarrassing representation of myself. I wasn’t even f*cking there.” She told the magazine. And while that might sound like an excuse to some people, it actually makes a lot of sense. Rousey stopped playing her game just minutes into the fight. It seemed like she was trying to avoid taking Holm down to the ground, which was baffling to everyone watching.
Rousey’s lip was severely damaged during the fight. She had cosmetic surgery to repair it, but still she admits it will take months for her to recover fully, “It might be three to six months before I can eat an apple, let alone take an impact.”
But she’s not going to let that stop her. Rousey promised she would be coming back to fight Holm again.
I need to come back. I need to beat this chick. Who knows if I’m going to pop my teeth out or break my jaw or rip my lip open again. I have to f*cking do it. It doesn’t matter. I have to do it.
It’s nice to see she still has that fire. I was worried she might just focus on her movie career after this. It would be the easy choice, right?
Ronda ain’t about that easy life though…
