American Idol Runner-Up Willie Spence Dies At Age 23 Following Major Car Crash
Some terribly sad news to report today. Former ‘American Idol‘ contestant Willie Spence, who was the runner-up on season 19 of the competition in 2021, has passed away at the young age of 23.
The extremely talented singer came in second, losing to Chayce Beckham, but it was certainly a close race.
According to the reports, Spence was driving in Tennessee on Tuesday when his car swerved and crashed into a semi-truck that was parked on the side of the road. His family told TMZ he had a flat tire earlier in the drive, but allegedly got it fixed and continued.
Sounds like they might be wondering if he was driving on a bad tire and lost control of the vehicle.
Former ‘American Idol’ success story Katharine McPhee sent out a sweet tribute to Spence. She had a special connection to the singer, having performed a duet with him on the show and mentoring him.
I received very tragic news tonight. Sweet @williespenceofficial passed away in a car accident. Only 23 years old. Life is so unfair and nothing is ever promised. God rest your soul Willie. It was a pleasure to sing with you and to know you.
Just hours before the deadly crash, Spence posted a video to his Instagram account showing off his voice.
