Southwest Pilot rant caught on Open Mic: Gays, Grannies & Grandes [Audio Clip]

I know this guy isn’t famous, in fact he is actually anonymous, but the story is great.

First of all, I’m cutting this guy “some” slack.  He’s an airline pilot which is right up there with one of the most egotistical jobs you can have.  Heart Surgeon, Olympic Track Star, NFL Wide Receiver, & Airline pilot.

So this unnamed pilot is talking to his co-pilot, but what he doesn’t realize is that the cockpit mic is on and what he is saying, is now being broadcast to the air traffic control tower.  D’oh.

He basically explains how he went to a party, one that he used to go to and “sleep” with stewardesses, and found nothing but Gays, Grannies, and Grandes!   “Grandes” – now that’s hilarious!  (pssst – That’s a fat chick!)

Too look at the rant a little deeper, if these are the guys running the show, then that means there is bias at the top towards age, sexual orientation and weight; three things that I don’t condone or take lightly.  However I don’t think that’s the case.  I think Southwest hires whoever is qualified to do the job.  This is why this particular pilot is frustrated.  If it were up to him, every flight would be like Hooters Airline.

This is also why I can laugh at this.  This is just basically one man’s Al Bundy type frustrated rant.

The Southwest Airline flight attendants ‘union is pissed and are trying to take legal action.  The pilot was suspended and told to take diversity sensitivity training before he could return to work.  This was not enough for the Union.

They were not happy with Southwest and issued the following statement,

“We have instructed our attorneys today to investigate the possibility of filing an EEOC charge with the federal government. We hope not to have to go that route, and instead, we are counting on Southwest Airlines to remedy this injustice. Bigotry in the workplace is bad business and unacceptable behavior on the ground and at 30,000 feet.”

Southwest’s VP of Flight Operation apologized publicly in a video.  He stated,

“What he said is offensive and inconsistent with the professional behavior and overall respect we require from all employees. He knows what he did cannot happen again.”

Of course we have the audio – as distasteful as it is, it’s still pretty funny.  Happy Friday
