P. Diddy & Magic Johnson Get Their Own Cable Channels as Comcast launches 4 Minority Networks.

Move over Oprah, OWN is going to have some competition.  P Diddy, Magic Johnson, Robert Rodriquez and Constantino Schwarz have all been green lighted by Comcast to have their own TV channels.

DIDDY’S REVOLT

Puff’s is doing one thing right already.  He is teaming up with MTV’s Andy Schoun.  In true Diddy fashion his channel will feature shows based on pop culture, music and all things swag.  He calls it “the first channel created entirely from the ground up in this new era of social media. His launch date will be sometime next year.

MAGIC JOHNSON’S ASPIRE

Magic Johnson is going the Tyler Perry route.  His channel will be focused on the uplifting of African Americans with programs that will inspire, enlighten, educate and encourage black families.

“Aspire will celebrate our heritage, our groundbreaking achievements and the fearless talent that has shaped American culture.”

ROBERT RODRIGUEZ’ EL REY

Rodriguez will be teaming up with John Fogelman and Cristina Patwa.  El Rey will be a Latino channel that will be primarily in English.  It will showcase Hispanic produced shows, actors and public figures.  El Rey is set to launch in Jan. 2014.

SCHWARZ’ BABYFIRST AMERICAS

This channel will lead the pack with an April 2012 launch date.  It will be a Spanish version of a Sesame Street channel.  It will be targeting preschoolers, focused on their development.

“BabyFirst Americas aims to bring the essential academic building blocks for Kindergarten readiness into the home, making it accessible for families all across the U.S.”

To top things off Comcast will be launching a $5.00 Netflix competitor called Xfinity Streampix.  This will reportedly go head to head with Netflix, and is scheduled to kick off this Thursday.

With OWN in ratings trouble, which of these four channels will still be around 2 years from now.  I’m not even going to lie, I’m excited to see what Diddy has up his sleeve.  Diddy TV has been better than good thus far.  All Season’s of Making the Band have been off the hook!  Time will tell.
