Tyler Perry lashes out at Spike Lee….like a Bitch.
Perry vs Lee. This is a long time feud that gets better and better with each round.
Perry took the gloves off and started swinging during a press conference to promote “Madea’s Big Happy Family.
Perry stated:
“I’m so sick of harking about damn Spike Lee. Spike can go straight to hell! You can print that. I am sick of him talking about me, I am sick of him saying, ‘this is a coon, this is a buffoon. ‘I am sick of him talking about black people going to see movies. This is what he said: ‘you vote by what you see,’ as if black people don’t know what tey want to see.”
Of course this was in response to Lee’s statement back in 2009,
“Each artist should be allowed to pursue their artistic endeavors, but I still think there is a lot of stuff out today that is coonery and buffoonery,” he said in ’09. “I know it’s making a lot of money and breaking records, but we can do better. … I am a huge basketball fan, and when I watch the games on TNT, I see these two ads for these two shows (Tyler Perry’s ‘Meet the Browns’ and ‘House of Payne’), and I am scratching my head. We got a black president, and we going back to Mantan Moreland and Sleep ‘n’ Eat?”
He was also angry about the perception that his film’s characters were stereotypes that don’t fit what African Americans are actually like in modern times.
Spike Lee has paved the way for black film makers and in his mind, this isn’t why he did it, for movies that he feels insults the black audience’s intelligence and perpetuates the many falsities about African American’s to the masses.
Cosmo, for the record agrees with Spike. Tyler Perry has used his extreme wealth to fund Black films in a time where there are no heavy hitters, with cheap dated comedic buffoonery. It’s like having a fast food restaurant on every corner in the hood, so the lower class get fat off of easy greasy substance that is barely edible. Hence is he key to Tyler Perry’s success. Easy, Greasy Substance that is barely edible, but all we have. Perry needs to respect the game, and bow to the master. How about accepting the criticism and create a move with substance, instead of lashing out like a spoiled brat.
Spike – we are waiting for another “He Got Game”, “School Daze”, or “Malcolm X” but don’t be afraid to leave some film on the cutting room floor. (Spike movies tend to be a little long….)
