Roger Ebert Finally Apologizes for is Ryan Dunn Tweets!

Roger Ebert.  Roger Roger Roger.

If Roger Ebert were a comedian, then I would maybe understand, but to make a joke so soon, and for it to be outside of your character, not cool.

Ebert of “Siskel and Ebert”, “Two thumbs up”, fame decided to make a pun and perhaps send a message at the expense of young Ryan Dunn’s tragedy.

WHAT DID ROGER EBERT TWEET?

Friends don’t let Jackasses drink and drive.

Hardy har har.  Not funny.

If this was Gilbert Gotfried then I would understand, but Roger Ebert is in no shape physically or emotionally to be judgmental and/or make jokes. He’s not trying to be funny, he’s trying to be an asshole and he’s succeeded.

Perez Hilton (my blogging hero) took up the defense for Ryan Dunn:

‘We certainly agree that driving after drinking is wrong, we think there’s no reason – especially RIGHT NOW – that anyone should be pointing fingers or poking fun at a truly tragic situation.’Everyone makes mistake, and this is somebody’s son. Too soon, Roger.’

I agree, but that didn’t stop Ebert, who even mocked Perez, in his tweets.

Bam Margera, of “Viva La Bam” fame and Ryan Dunn friend of 19 years, was enraged and fired back with some tweets of his own.

Ebert apologizes and backs down…finally

On his website Ebert writes today:

“To begin with, I offer my sympathy to Ryan Dunn’s family and friends, and to those of Zachary Hartwell, who also died in the crash. I mean that sincerely. It is tragic to lose a loved one.”

“I also regret that my tweet about the event was considered cruel. It was not intended as cruel. It was intended as true.”

“I have no way of knowing if Ryan Dunn was drunk at the time of his death.”

“I don’t know what happened in this case, and I was probably too quick to tweet. That was unseemly.”

Dunn’s body was so badly burned he could only be identified by his tattoos!

HOW FAST WAS RYAN DUNN GOING?

EstimateS say that he was driving 110 mph.   The Porche 911 GT3 can do 190.  Jeepers!

He was with his buddy Zac Hartwell, the person on the far right of the now famous twitter pic of Dunn drinking with his pals just hours before the accident.

Hartwell’s death was no less tragic.  The man was a Navy SEAL with 3 tours in Iraq.

Maybe Dunn was drunk driving, maybe not.  Either way it’s too early to tell.  And really too early to make a joke, or pun, or riddle…..(unless you are a comedian – they have poetic license on all life’s tragedies).

Yes Dunn had a drink driving charge 6 years ago, and 6 years ago I was working at Taco Bell. That doesn’t mean that he was drunk.  Again, maybe he was, but maybe he wasn’t.  That also doesn’t make doesn’t make his early demise less tragic.
Stephen ‘Steve-O’ Glover was too distraught to speak but later tweeted:

‘I don’t know what to say, except I love Ryan Dunn and I’m really going to miss him.’

We will know in 4-6 weeks when toxicology reports come back if he was drunk or not.  2 shots and 3 light beers could do it, but over what period of time is the question.

You know there will be more on this one.
