Brett Butler’s Fall From “Grace” – From Hollywood to Homeless and ready for a Comeback
“Grace Under Fire” Actress Brett Butler is making a comeback. In the 3 minute clip below she discusses how she almost died like Michael Jackson. It’s pretty dramatic, one because she looks like “The Walking Dead” and two, because she looks like “The Walking Dead”. It’s hard to imagine that she was a two-time Golden Globe actress.
Butler was “Grace” from 1993 – 98 until her drug abuse became so bad that she was bounced from the show. The show was actually pretty good and was in the top 10 for two seasons. It had a “Rossanne”, blue collar feel to it, and audiences could relate. In its opening season it was the highest rated new show. As Butler’s star rose so did her ego and attitude. She was accused of flashing her breast to her 12 year old Co-star, she clashed with producers and writers and she missed tapings and delayed seasons due to re-hab. Enough was enough and ABC gave her the boot.
She talks about how bad her pain-killer addiction really was,
“I did everything but crack and needles pretty much, I had a variety of things given to me by doctor, and other things. I’m not doing it to be coy, but I’m not going to go through what I did. I did it ’til the wheels came off.”
After the show she moved to a Farm in Georgia until she ran out of money and found herself living in a homeless shelter. Wow! I know what you are thinking, “How could she run out of money living on a farm?” Don’t forget, she was on drugs. That will do it every time.
She talks about how bad she treated people, even calling herself the “C” word. “CRACKER”. She says it as she refers to in an incident where she was being an abrasive a-hole and she thought her management should have told her,
‘You ungrateful cracker, go get in the car. Go to the show, and they’ll drop you out back.'”
It’s a very awkward line, in a very un-funny interview. She also talks about rehab centers that she was in where it cost $30,000 per month but did very little good.
She is taking strides to get it all back together; starting with getting back into stand up. She will be at the LA Downtown Comedy Club this weekend and has a reality show in the works that focuses on her self-proclaimed psychic abilities. (Oh Boy!)
Sounds like a train wreck waiting to happen. My prediction is that the series will do 8 shows at best and Grace will be back under fire. She has an awkward sense of humor now, and none of its funny. Watch in the 3:00 min clip. Nothing she says gets a laugh or even a smile, but I think she thinks she’s funny. …and that’s the worst kind of comedian. I wish her luck, and like most train wrecks, I will be watching.
