Ben & Jerry Pull the Racially Insensitive Jeremy Lin Flavor Off the Market & Issue a Twitter Apology.
Ben & Jerry Proves that Racial Insensitive still exists. They apologize and Pull the Lin Sanity Flavor off the market!
Huh? Apologize for what? Isn’t it just Vanilla Yogurt called “Taste the Lin-Sanity”?
If that was the case, then all would be well. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case…at all. The “Taste the Lin-Sanity” flavor consists of frozen yogurt with lychee honey swirls and…wait for it….wait for it…..fortune-cookie pieces. Of course this outraged Asian Americans and probably regular Americans too. It was just a bad idea.
Ben & Jerry tried to defend the flavor on twitter by saying that the flavor was “swept up” in Jeremy Lin’s honor. There were a series of tweets supporting, defending and then apologizing for the screw-up.
‘On behalf of Ben & Jerry’s Boston Scoop Shops, we offer a heartfelt apology if anyone was offended by our handmade Linsanity flavour that we offered at our Harvard Square location,’
‘We are proud and honored to have Jeremy Lin hail from one of our fine, local universities, and we are huge sports fans. We were swept up in the nationwide Linsanity momentum.
‘Our intention was to create a flavor to honor Jeremy Lin’s accomplishments and his meteoric rise in the NBA, and recognize that he was a local Harvard graduate. We try to demonstrate our commitment as a Boston-based, valued-led business and if we failed in this instance, we offer our sincere apologies,’
The Jeremy Lin phenomenon has sparked foods up and down the East Coast, some of which include:
- Lings – Asian spiced chicken wings (borderline…but not blatant)
- Jermy Lin-Mint – a chocolate and mint cookie milkshake
- Lintinis –Various flavored martinis
So far the most poorly executed is the Linsanity flavor from Ben & Jerrys. They only made one batch – and it was all sold out!
I’m waiting for KFC to put out the Obama Re-election Combo meal. Don’t be surprised…obviously these executives are clueless.
You have to admit, the Ice Cream does look good!!
