Paul McCartney Got Paid How Much for His Olympic Ceremony Performance?

When I read that Paul McCartney received $1.57 for his performance at the Olympics I wasn’t sure what $1.57 was referring to exactly.  Come to find out today, that is exactly what he got paid.  $1.57 or 1 British pound.

Despite his age, McCartney killed  it closing the showpiece event.  He got everyone fired up with “Hey Jude” and Arctic Monkeys played the Beatles “ComeTogether”.   By all measures it was a hit, helping to bring in a huge audience of 42 Million viewers Worldwide.

McCartney wasn’t the only one who gave up his salary; all the headlining acts did.

A London 2012 spokesperson told the Press,

“The top talent basically gave their services for free, But in order to have a formal contract for their services you have to show an amount, so that was set at a pound which enables them to have a contractual arrangement.”

McCartney can definitely afford it.  He was just listed in The Sunday Times as Britain’s wealthiest musician worth £665 million.  Looking back at his divorce settlement to Heather Mills in 2008, that $48.6 million was like chump change.
