Steven Tyler Says, American Idol Gig was Alway A Temp Job.
I love how all these talent show judges start talking smack after the relationship with the show has dissolved and after the money has been paid out. This time it’s Steven Tyler and I actually believe him! Tyler reveals now to Rolling Stone magazine that the job as the Idol judge was only temporary to begin with. He says,
“It was something to do while the storm blew by, to be honest,”
“I loved it and hated it. It was a great job, I sat next to J. Lo and I made a ton of money. It was a moment in life and it became larger than life,”
He also revealed that the producers of the show wanted him to play the “bad” guy. They wanted him to be the new Simon Cowell, Tyler explains,
“The show’s about kids and what you do to nurture their talent. They wanted me to take the piss out of the kids and I don’t have that in me. That’s not what I’m about. That’s more about that other guy. Not me,”
I actually believe him. Tyler didn’t need the money nor the fame. (The man is worth $130 Million). He was just bored while he was waiting for the band to get back together. Now that they are, he wants to hit the road and do what he does best. The schedule of American Idol is brutal and I’m sure a guy like Tyler is not used to having to be certain places at certain times “ALL THE TIME”. I’m sure it wore on him to the point where he felt it was more trouble then it’s worth. At age 64, did he want to spend his good years like that?
Aerosmith is back and have been working on their first new album since 2001 entitled “Music From Another Dimension” scheduled to be released in November. With that you better believe there will be a tour and “Idol” will be a thing of the past.
