Madonna Rocks a Cub Scouts Uniform & Smooches Anderson Cooper All in Support of Gay Rights

All in a night’s work for Madonna.  The 54 year old superstar took the stage at the Gay & Lesbian alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD)  Awards on Saturday night wearing a well-tailored Cub scout uniform.   I’m not sure why she chose the blue Cub Scout “uni” instead of the Brown & Green Boy Scout outfit, but I think she got her point across.

The Boy Scouts believe it or not is a private organization and they can take any stance they see fit.  As part of their principles homosexuality is not allowed.  There has been incidents where memberships have been revoked and denied because scouts and leaders have come out.

Madonna had a message for the organization and she used the GLAAD platform to let the Scouts of America know.  She started,

“I wanted to be a Boy Scout, but they wouldn’t let me join. I think that’s f**ked up. I can build a fire. I know how to pitch a tent. I have a very good sense of direction. I can rescue kittens from trees. Listen, I wanna do good for the community, I think I should be allowed to be allowed to be a Boy Scout. I think they should change their stupid rules.”

Then In a more serious tone she addressed the growing bullying problem and her concerns, especially because she has teenage kids herself.  She told the audience,

“When I think about young kids in America who are being bullied and tortured, I want to sit down and cry a river of tears,”

It’s an atrocity to me. I don’t accept it.”

She then presented Cooper with his award greeting him with big-ass kiss right on the lips.  The Vito Russo Award is given to openly gay media professionals who have made a significant difference in promoting equality.  Cooper graciously accepted the award and took the time to thank all of his supporters,

“I am only here tonight because I’ve benefited from what they and so many others have done… Being gay is certainly one of the greatest blessings, it opened my head and heart in ways that I never could have predicted.”
